After 8 years of riding I decided to clean my belt, front pulley and rear. There was a thin build up of shit on the lips of either side. Took my time and cleaned it well. Now my belt tracks more to the right with 1-2 mm of clearance and NO more belt chirp.

Also consider an air compressor to blowout dirt before a residue.

No thank you Lee. I think it was one of your early posts where you and your mates were on a run in dusty conditions. In the morning you guys hosed down your belts and pulleys. I also went to a Victory and an Indian site, they have chirps also. And again mostly in dusty conditions. Thanks again

Rich that's not a bad idea. But this build up of residue was hardend, I must of spent a good 20 minutes rolling the bike back and forth as to Scrub that shit off. If I had not seen that post I probably would be looking for someone else to hand my money to.

That was probably the Tottenham flocking, I think from memory every Bird was a chirpin after a very dusty road, it was quite funny listening to them in a pack

I was losing hope thinking I am forever stuck with the chirp. If it was a mild case I would not mind. But what really amazed me is the tracking of the belt, from being pinned to the outside pulley to riding the left side with a bit of room to spare.

While I was I my back I took a small breather from cleaning the belt and pulley. I was checking for leaks or anything that could be a problem. As I looked at the header pipe I noticed maybe a 3/4 inch pear shaped hole just before the slip in pipe. Now why would that be there on both sides? Dose that add to decel pop?

Crossover pipe? FWIW, mine is trapped between headers, it does not slide to either side as directed in service manual. No go. Can only be removed/installed with headers. Pear-shaped openings might be for clamp compression and shouldn't be an exhaust leak; you'd certainly hear it if exhaust was escaping at crossover.

To add to your belt-cleaning suggestion, I've been cleaning the belt cover regularly since it tends to collect anything thrown from belt. I've found fresh asphalt w/gravel in there, sticks, stones, all sorts of debris. Don't know where these bees came from....

UnBEElievable the things you might find.

Here is one of the holes I mentioned. Location is easy enough to find thru the pic.

that is just to let moisture out as the pipes are double wall and its only a hole for the outer not all the way through so no exhaust leak should come from there.

Thanks Fab, I did think it was some kind of weep hole since I saw no carbon building up around it. I got my metal gear organics but won't need them until next season. Your riding season is coming up, enjoy your rides
by the way Fab, I think I read on the forum that some will take a fine sandpaper and sand the rotors a bit. Is that something you do? If so what grit? Thanks again.

Ray & MotorMac for what its worth, I drilled a row of /14" = 6mm holes along that rib in the cover to let all that small crap fall through. Also since I fitted the deflector/extension to the rear-drive pully guard ( which can be done without removing the rear wheel) ( Just the Upper and lower belt guards) and there has been very little crap in there since. It those tiny bits of Bitumen that cause the holes in the belts.

The extension to the rear Drive Pully Guard

Looking at the Guard through the wheel from the brake caliper side.

Great idea Gerry, as for my second question regarding the brake rotors, did I not read someone lightly sanding the rotors before installing new pads? Or is it not necessary?
Thanks again

Nicely done, Gerpa! Great mod, should certainly keep business side of belt clean. Might keep debris in cover to a minimum, too.
Ray, I worry about you..... ;-)

Bee not troubled, my words were not meant to sting.
I'm a big fan of truly atrocious puns, have a hunch I can count on more from you.

By the way, I have the very rare, genuine Triumph, California-only, fuel tank vapor recovery charcoal canister available if you're interested. Free shipping. Includes whatever sludge it might contain by now. I'll start the bidding at $50.
If you're interested, give me a buzz.

Not ment to sting, clever! Your not so bad with the puns yourself. If I am not mistakin I have a canister on my bike. So thanks but no thanks. California is pretty slick on emissions, did you buy a new one or delete? Maybe it doesn't matter I don't know. You just put brakes on your bike, did you gently sand down the rotors? I can't seem to get an answer for this question.
Hive never would have thought that bee's would make a home so close to moving parts, it not a honey of a home, but that is california for ya. I guess the sidewalks are all taken. I do enjoy the puns also. I will try to swarm you with them to you in future posts.

i wouldn't sand rotors, just put new pads in and break them in properly and all should be good.

...add to fab's post, wipe rotors with brakleen to remove any oil residue (including fingerprints).

Wiped rotors with a rag to clean 'em is all. Slapped in new (OEM-style) pads and done.
As for the bees.... bike never sits long enough for any critters to collect, they must've arrived on a ride.

It's been weeks now since I had the screech/chirp. I had a independent tech told him what I knew about the belt and gave him the key. First time out, not so good. Second time a slight chirp. that is when I pulled all the belt guards and the coolant reservoir cover. Sprayed, brushed, rinsed, rolling the bike back and forth in neurotic fashion. Belt rides inward left with about 2mm to the edge. About one inch of play on a hot belt. It makes me wonder, how many bikes don't really need an adjustment, just a good cleaning. Especially the belts that ride right next to the pulley lip rubbing on the built up residue. That friction there I think spells chirp. And the best part, this guy is 3-4 miles away and charges $50 a wheel. Triumph charged me $100 a wheel a few years back.
